Asturias is often described by Spaniards as green, welcoming and deeply authentic - a place where rural life, gastronomy and nature come together effortlessly. Thanks to its mild, humid climate, the region stays lush and vibrant year-round, offering ideal conditions for walking in any season.
The landscape is a striking patchwork of walled pastures, dense forests and traditional farming villages, framed by a dramatic coastline to the north and rugged limestone mountains to the south. Along the way, you’ll encounter Romanesque and pre-Romanesque churches, historic towns and a strong cultural identity that has shaped life here for centuries.
This walking route explores the valleys of Grado, Proaza, Teverga and Somiedo, as well as the highlands of Ubiñas–La Mesa and Somiedo Natural Parks. At its core is the Camín Real de la Mesa, a historic GR trail that once served as a vital link between Asturias and the interior of Spain.
With outstanding local cuisine, welcoming rural accommodation and breathtaking natural scenery, this journey reveals the very essence of Asturias - peaceful, wild and deeply rooted in tradition.
