Broadcasting live from the heart of the Picos de Europa
Start: Arenas de Cabrales Finish: Nueva de Llanes
Arrival in Arenas de Cabrales, on the northern slope of Picos. Time to settle into the accommodation, a comfortable and welcoming hotel in the town center with a small garden and pool. In the afternoon, an optional stroll along agricultural paths around the village with magnificent views. If you don't feel like walking, try a 'culín' of natural cider at one of the outdoor terraces.
Challenge: Optional route of 3 / 9 km, 1 / 3.5 hours
After breakfast, we'll take you by taxi to the starting point of the route you've chosen for today: the famous but long Cares Gorge, or the lesser-known Royal Path between Ortiguero and Carreña that passes through the beautiful village of Asiego. A mandatory stop at the Sidrería Casa Niembro, a gastronomic reference. If you get carried away pouring culines of cider, we can pick you up in Asiego and save you the remaining stretch to Carreña.
Challenge: 9 / 22 km - 5,5/13,6mi
Villages: Poncebos, Camarmeña or Pandiello, Asiego, Carreña
Today you'll change scenery: from the mountains of Picos de Europa to the paradisiacal beaches of Llanes. After a transfer to Vidiago (or Turanzas), you'll leisurely walk through the 'caleyas' and small asphalted roads of a beautiful rural setting of Llanes, which will take you to the mouth of the Bedón River at the spectacular San Antolín Beach, over 1 km of sand and rocks opening to the Cantabrian Sea. After replenishing energy at the beach bars, continue along the coast, passing through the beaches of Gulpiyuri and La Huelga until you reach Nueva de Llanes. If you prefer a shorter route, you can become a pilgrim for a few hours and follow the Northern Way between San Antolín and Nueva along a shadier path at the foot of a coastal mountain range.
Note: If you traveled to Cabrales by car, you'll drive yourself in the morning to the hotel in Nueva de Llanes, where a taxi awaits to take you to the starting point of the hiking route in Vibaño.
Challenge: 9.5 / 15 km - 6/9 mi, 3 / 6 h, 150 / 500 m ascent and descent
Villages: Vibaño, Turanzas, Posada la Vieja, Naves or Hontoria, Nueva de Llanes
Today's route takes you on a spectacular journey combining sections of the Northern Way with the coastal path, passing through the Bufones de Pría and the Cuevas del Mar Beach, featuring a chill-out bar-restaurant. If the total 5.5-hour journey seems too long, it's easy to shorten it with a taxi transfer from Cuevas del Mar to the end of the route (1 hour less of walking) or by starting the walk in the morning from Piñeres, Llames, or Villanueva de Pría. (*) The price of this taxi is not included in the package.
To do: 7 / 17 km - 4,3/10,5 mi, 3 / 5.5 h, 185 / 400 m ascent and descent
Villages: Piñeres, Llames, and Villanueva de Pría
After breakfast, your hiking getaway in Eastern Asturias comes to an end. If you wish to retrieve your car (parked in Cabrales), we can arrange a taxi for you.

Where is Asturias?
Asturias is an autonomous region in northern Spain, located on the Cantabrian coast between Galicia and Cantabria, with the Picos de Europa mountains rising just inland from the sea.
When to go?
The best time to go to Asturias is late spring, summer and early autumn. During these months, temperatures are mild, days are often sunny, and snow has usually melted from the mountains. Thanks to its Atlantic influence and mountainous terrain, this area of Spain also enjoys cooler nights even during the hottest summer months, making it ideal for walking and outdoor activities.
If you arrive in Cabrales with your own car, you can leave it parked in the hotel’s private car park for the duration of the walking trip. To retrieve your car at the end of the holiday, there are two options:
• On day 5, we can arrange a morning taxi transfer from Nueva de Llanes to Cabrales.
• Alternatively, on day 3 in the morning, you can first drive and leave your car in Nueva de Llanes, then take a taxi to the starting point of the route in Vidiago.
