The first rain after the long, warm summer brings the countryside back to life with an astonishing variety of wildflowers. From mid-October to around mid-May, the Maltese Islands are covered in lush greenery and the paths are lined with fennel, clover, wild iris and myrtle. By late spring, more than a thousand plant species are in bloom.
