Start: Girona Finish: Girona
Arrival in the medieval city of Girona, famous for its colorful houses on the River Onyar, impressive cathedral and labyrinthine Jewish Quarter. Depending on your arrival time, you can stroll through the old town or enjoy a terrace with local tapas.
Challenge: Travel to Girona
Your cycling adventure starts along the Carrilet Greenway, a former railway line converted into a bike path. Riding gently downhill, you pass forests, small villages and rural landscapes before reaching the Mediterranean coast at Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Time to relax by the sea or explore the town’s seafront promenade.
Challenge: 41 km, 4.5 hrs
Villages along the way: Quart, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera, Sant Feliu de Guíxols
You leave the coast and cycle north along quiet country lanes, heading into the heart of the Empordà plains. Olive groves, vineyards and medieval villages dot the landscape. You arrive in Torroella de Montgrí, beneath its dramatic castle perched on the hill.
Challenge: 46 km, 5 hrs
Villages along the way: Calonge, Palamós (optional detour), Pals, Torroella de Montgrí
Today’s route follows the Pirinexus cycle network, through rice fields and fruit orchards near the coast before turning inland toward Sant Pere Pescador. From there you continue to Figueres, where the highlight is undoubtedly the Dalí Theatre-Museum, one of Spain’s most visited museums.
Challenge: 46 km, 5 hrs
Villages along the way: L’Escala, Sant Pere Pescador, Castelló d’Empúries, Figueres
Leaving Figueres, you cycle through quiet agricultural land and gentle hills toward Banyoles, famous for its large natural lake. A perfect place for an evening stroll along the lakeside promenade or even a refreshing swim.
Challenge: 37 km, 4 hrs
Villages along the way: Vilafant, Cistella, Esponellà, Banyoles
Today you climb gradually into the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. Forested hills give way to the unique volcanic landscape, with its craters and lava flows. Near Olot, you can make a detour to walk inside the Santa Margarida volcano, a dormant crater with a small chapel in the middle.
Challenge: 32 km, 4.5 hrs
Villages along the way: Santa Pau, Olot
The longest day of the trip, but a very enjoyable one: you follow the Carrilet Greenway all the way back to Girona, mostly downhill. Passing rural landscapes, rivers and small villages, you end your trip where you started—in the vibrant city of Girona.
Challenge: 59 km, 5.5 hrs
Villages along the way: Les Preses, Amer, Anglès, Girona
After breakfast your arrangement ends.
