Start: Amsterdam Finish: Amsterdam
Arrive early to make the most of your time in Amsterdam and explore its beautiful 17th-century canal belt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its historic charm and elegant architecture. Those looking for a lively atmosphere can head to iconic squares such as Dam Square, Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein, where the city's vibrant character comes to life. For a quieter side of Amsterdam, stroll along the picturesque Brouwersgracht or rent a canal bike and experience the city from its famous waterways.
Please note that parking in Amsterdam can be limited and challenging, especially in the city centre.
Today you leave Amsterdam behind and cycle into the scenic countryside of South Kennemerland, where your first glimpses of the Netherlands’ famous tulip fields await. Along the way, visit Cruquius, a remarkable steam-powered pumping station and one of the country’s most important industrial heritage sites.
The route continues through the charming surroundings of Haarlem, with colourful tulip fields appearing near Bennebroek. End the day exploring Haarlem’s historic centre, from the lively Grote Markt to its hidden hofjes, peaceful courtyards full of character and history.
Depending on availability, your overnight stay may be in Santpoort, approximately 7 km from Haarlem. Here you will stay in an elegant country estate surrounded by parkland and nature. Dinner is included this evening.
Take time to explore the charming city of Haarlem, known for its historic streets, picturesque canals and hidden hofjes, peaceful courtyard gardens dating back centuries. Art lovers may also wish to visit the Frans Hals Museum, home to works by some of the Dutch Golden Age’s most celebrated painters.
In the afternoon, cycle through the colourful Bulb and Dune Region, where vast fields of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths create one of the Netherlands’ most iconic landscapes during spring. If you would like to visit the world-famous Keukenhof Gardens, we recommend booking an extra night in Leiden and purchasing your tickets in advance: www.keukenhof.nl
The route then leads to Leiden, the country's oldest university city, where picturesque canals, historic monuments, windmills and museums combine with a lively cultural atmosphere. The city's historic botanical garden is particularly worth a visit.
Your return ride to Amsterdam follows a scenic route through the rural Green Heart region, passing tranquil lakes, charming villages and elegant country estates along the banks of the River Amstel. This peaceful stretch offers a wonderful contrast to the vibrant atmosphere of the Dutch capital.
Back in Amsterdam, discover a city whose history is closely tied to the river that gave it its name. What began as a small fishing settlement in the 13th century has grown into one of Europe’s most captivating cities. The historic heart of Amsterdam surrounds the Oude Kerk, the city’s oldest building and a fascinating reminder of its medieval origins.
After breakfast, your cycling adventure comes to an end.
