Arrival on La Palma airport. A taxi will be waiting to take you to your first accommodation, in the nearby village of Cancajos. In you arrive early, you will have plenty of time to take a bus and visit the capital Santa Cruz de la Palma or relax by the swimming pool or at the beach.
Early in the morning a taxi transfer is arranged to go to one of the hidden corners of the island: los Franceses. A breathtaking route with impressive views along the Camino Real, going past the hamlet of La Tosca, with its magnificent Dragon trees. The route ends at the hotel arranged for tonight and tomorrow, with indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Dinner is included in this accommodation for both nights
Challenge: 12 km, 750m ascent, 550m descent, 4.5 - 5 hrs.
Taxi transfer to the cloud forests of Los Tilos, a UNESCO nature reserve of laurel forests, from there, you will traverse an area of lush vegetation as you walk up to the crater to reach La Laguna de Barlovento, a reservoir set in the heart of La Palma’s laurel forest. At La Laguna you head to Barlovento, passing terraced orchards on your way north. There is option to extend your hike today taking a lovely there-and-back detour from Los Tilos to the vista point at “El Espigón Atravesado”.
Challenge: 9 km, 470m ascent, 350m descent, 3.5-4 hrs.
Optional extension (totals): 15 km, 720m ascent 600m descent, 5 hrs.
Morning transfer to the foot of Pico de La Nieve (2039m). Today’s route is along the edge of the deep Caldera de Taburiente. Then, a long descent along the "Camino Real", begins through pine forests and the so-called ‘Reventón’ until you reach the Virgen del Pino chapel. Transfer to los Llanos de Aridane.
Challenge:16 km, 300m ascent, 1250m descent, 6 hrs.
After a transfer to Los Brecitos, in the very heart of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, you begin your exploration of this natural area descending to the bed of the Taburiente River. Walk toward the legendary Roque Idafe, a rock with a strange shape and with a special meaning for the native inhabitants of the island, with its striking Colouful Waterfall, dyed by the sulphur generated by the Caldera. A taxi will be arranged at the end of the route to go back to Los Llanos de Aridane.
Challenge: 16.5 km, 250m ascent, 900m descent, 6 hrs.
Once and again, a taxi takes you to the foot of the Pico Birigoyo, at El Pilar recreational area. Here begins a dusty walk along the many volcanoes of Cumbre Vieja, with impressive views and a superb perspective of the craters on La Palma. The route ends in Fuencaliente. Transfer back to Los Llanos de Aridane in the afternoon.
Challenge: 17 km, 550m ascent, 1200m descent, 6-6.5 hrs.
After a taxi transfer, the hike starts at La Cumbrecita, where the ascent to the Bejenado Peak begins. A steep and challenging ascent to the summit (1854m), with the reward of achieveing sweeping views over the Caldera de Taburiente, el Teide peak, los Llanos de Aridane, or the sea of clouds coming from the eastern part of the island… the icing of the cake! The route ends at the National Park Visitors Centre, where you will be picked-up by the taxi to continue back to Cancajos.
Challenge: 13 km, 500m ascent, 1000m descent, 5-5,5 hrs.
After breakfast your holiday on La Palma ends, unless you book extra nights. Transfer to the airport is included
