After check-in, visit the beautiful centre of Bayeux with its impressive cathedral, historic houses and the famous tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings. Overnight Bayeux where the quality of local cuisine is superb. A local favourite is a galette, a savoury crepe made with buckwheat and filled with a range of different ingredients, or the tubs of mussels which are full of flavour.
Starting from Bayeux, you reach the pretty valley of the Aure along the river, the romantic site of the church of Vaux-sur-Aure, the Haizerie farm and its ice creams, the orchards of the Fumichon farm. You continue via the Bessin countryside trails to Port-en-Bessin.
Today's loop walk takes you further west, to Colleville-sur-mer and the impressive American War cemetery. From here you can walk down to Omaha Beach at Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, then follow the trail back through farming land. Or if you don't feel like walking back, you can order a taxi (approx EUR30, payable locally).
This morning you start walking from the harbour of Port-en-Bessin. Nearby is the main German Battery of Longues-sur-Mer, and walk continue along Mulberry harbour. After visiting this strategic position with its tanks and bunkers, continue on to Arromanches.
This short walk allows you to discover Asnelles, a small village on the coast. You follow the coast and even be able to walk on the beach, You will be able to visit the factory of shortbread biscuits of Asnelles, the museum of Arromanches, and admire the landscape overlooking the sea and the port. The return will be by the trails of the Normandy countryside with a glimpse of the coast.
After breakfast, taxi transfer back to Bayeux.
