Cycling the Camino de Santiago Holidays

Self-guided Camino Bike Tours

Explore the ancient pilgrimage routes of Spain by cycling the Camino. You will share the same paths as the pilgrims hiking, wishing them a ‘buen Camino' as you pass by, zooming through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Spain. Travelling by bike you are able to cover more ground, to see more of the delightful regions the Caminos pass through, able to stop in little village squares to eat lunch and chat with your fellow pilgrims.

FAQs

With several unpaved sections, choose an MTB or gravel bike with a good gear and grippy tyres if you are going to follow the official Camino.

With several unpaved sections, choose an MTB or gravel bike with good gearing and grippy tyres if you’re following the official Camino. If you plan to stick to paved roads, you'll have more flexibility in the type of bike you can use.

If you're not using a travel agency and plan to carry your own luggage, make sure to distribute the weight evenly between your panniers. It will safe you energy after a few kilometres!
Leave some extra space for things you might pick up along the way—like lunch, snacks, leftover food (bread, pasta, etc.), or even clothes and souvenirs.

Pack only the items that you need. Minimise luxury items. You may feel as if you need certain things in order to fully enjoy yourself, but pilgrims often realise what they can do without during their journey; unfortunately, by that point, it is often too late, and they have to carry everything until the end. Before you leave, we advise you to pack everything you need for your journey, and go 45-55 km (28-34 miles) bike ride. Then after the ride, re-evaluate whether you can take less items on your pilgrimage.

Book accommodation in advance if you are going in high season: some areas in Spain are hugely popular in summer. If you are staying in albergues, bear in mind that preference is given to pilgrims on foot; so, do not plan to arrive too early, but also reserve some energy in case you have to cycle a few extra kilometres to the next hostel.

If you want to use your own bike, you can use the bicycle delivery service of Correos, Seur or Sendyourbike; or alternatively, travel by ferry on an overnight crossing.
