ROUTE

Moderate trip on hilly terrain, very little shade on roads (Daily climb 350 to 750m). The rides follow mostly well asphalted country lanes and smooth turf roads (approx. 35% of the time) with very little traffic. More traffic near larger towns.

Start: Buonconvento                       Finish: Buonconvento

Day 1: Arrive in Buonconvento
Day 2: Murlo and La Befa round tour (33 km / 20,5 mi)
Day 3: Montalcino Land of Brunello wine round trip (42.5 -24 km / 26,5 - 15 mi)
Day 4: Pienza to Buonconvento via Lucignano d'asso (24 km / 15 mi)
Day 5: Arrivederci Val d'Orcia

Day 1:    Arrive in Buonconvento

Upon arrival in the charming medieval town of Buonconvento, rich in history and architecture with 700-year old walls, a transfer will take you to the agriturismo (farm house) where you will stay for the next four nights. A delicious Tuscan dinner awaits you! If you have rented bikes with us, they will be waiting for you at the accommodation.

Day 2:    Murlo and La Befa round tour (33 km / 20,5 mi)

Ride through the bountiful, uncontaminated countryside to Murlo and immerse yourself in the dense woods as you ride by the Crevole River. Continue past steep cliffs to the sweet smell of bright yellow flowers and through an enchanting oak tree forest to La Befa. A short part of the trail is too narrow or rocky to cycle (about 300 m) however the exhilarating views are more than worth the effort.

Challenge: 3.5 hours, 33 km / 20,5 mi, 584 m ascent, 675 m descent

Day 3:    Montalcino Land of Brunello wine round trip (42.5 -24 km / 26,5 - 15 mi)

Pedal through vibrant fields of sunflowers past Buonconvento to the heart of the Brunello wine district. The Monte Amiata volcano lures above as the surrounding countryside transforms into endless olive groves and vineyards. Ride steeply up to the fortified city of Montalcino where you can visit its magnificent 14th century fortress and Palazzo Comunale, then return to Buonconvento along remote back roads.

Challenge: 6 / 3 hours, 42.5 -24 km / 26,5 - 15 mi, 1177 / 587m ascent, 1177 / 587m descent, optional extention to Montalcino 6 km

Day 4:    Pienza to Buonconvento via Lucignano d'asso (24 km / 15 mi)

After breakfast clients are transferred to Pienza. The ride today is mostly on gravel road, gentle rolling hills in the most beautiful countryside of the Orcia valley.  Half way you can stop in Lucignano d'Asso, a tiny village on the L'eroica cycle route.  Then you ride back to the organic farm of Pieve a Salti where you stay tonight.

Challenge: 2.5 hours, 24 km / 15 mi, 400 m ascent, 654 m descent

Day 5:    Arrivederci Val d'Orcia

After breakfast a short transfer takes you down to Buonconvento where you can catch the local bus or train to the airport, unless you have booked a transfer or extra services with us.

REVIEWS

25-04-2019

"The accommodation was great! People were friendly and everything was perfect! Very friendly staff, good food, good atmosphere. The small villages of Luciano and Murlo were beautiful and not touristic, really a recommendation!. The valleys we passed on the strada bianca's (that you would never visit by car) were very beautiful and quiet"
