Day 2:    Circular route from Kalavarda (37 km)

Today you make a day tour from Kalavarda along the hardly inhabited northwest coast. You cycle via the coastal road along the sea shore towards the remains of the City state Kamiros, that you may visit on your way or on your way back.

The authentic kafenion of Mandriko offers a nice possibility for a coffee break. Don’t forget to look at the beautiful church next to the café. Crossing a low hill, you descend to the small fishing port of Skala Kamiros. Small ferries depart to the Island of Chalki from this port. From Skala you make a loop to the fortress of Kritinia, dating back to Medieval Times.

From its immense surrounding walls, you enjoy great views over the inhabited Island Chalki and its surrounding uninhabited islands. You cycle back to Skala and from here follow the same route back to Kalavarda. The sun now on your back and usually cycling with a tailwind. Heading closer to Kalavarda there are four taverns on different beaches.

Challange: 37 km, 440 m ascent, 440 descent

Day 3:    Via Petaloudes to Rhodes town (43 km)

You start cycling northwards parallel to the coast. In the village of Fanes you will see the colourful houses that make this village so unique. Then you head inwards to the valley of Petaloudes (Greek for butterflies). In this beautiful green gorge you will see thousands of butterflies in summer (June-September). Through a forested area you will come to Maritsa and further north to Pastida, where you find excellent tavernas. You enter the old center of Rhodes via a gate and cycle through the medieval city to you hotel that is located within the old city walls.

Challenge cycling trip: 43 km, 385m ascent, 385m descent

Day 4:    Walking tour in Rhodes town or day trip by bike to the island o (6/23 km)

We described for you a great walking tour in the ancient city center of Rhodes that will not only guide you along the high lights, but will also show you hidden alleys and surprising places in the city.

Another option for today is a trip to the island of Symi, a very picturesque island. You will arrive at the monastery Panormitis on the south coast. You will cycle across the whole island to the capital town of Symi, a trip of 22 km with height difference of 500m! In the late afternoon you will take the ferry back to Rhodes.

Challange: 6/23 km

Day 5:    Via the east coast to Archangellos (39 km)

Today’s trip takes you along the east coast. First highlights are the ancient Turkish baths in Kalithea that have been wonderfully restored recently.  In Afandou you will peddle along quiet beaches. At the far end you will see the Monastery of Tsambika built on the summit of a 300 meter high cliff. End of today’s trip is Archangellos, a lively Greece village.

Challenge: 39 km, 375m ascent, 200m descent

Day 6:    Cycle trip to Lindos and back (52 km)

Today you may go by bike (3km) to the beach of Stegna and enjoy a day at the sea, or you can opt for a visit to Lindos. You can go by bike or by public bus.  Lindos is a beautiful little village of white cubist houses at the foot of a vertical rock that is crowned by the ancient Acropolis of Lindos. There are two small ports on either site of the village. Together with the Acropolis on top, it was easy to defend the village in ancient times. After you park your bicycle at the entrance of the village, you can visit the Acropolis with remains of ancient temples within a medieval fortress.

Challenge: 52 km, 470m ascent, 470m descent

Day 7:    To the west coast and Kalavarda (40 km)

First you cycle to Epta Piges, a place in the forest with seven springs, a tavern and some peacocks. Then you ascend via a green valley to the Monastery of Agios Nektarios with its refreshing spring and a huge plane tree.  Eleousa is a remarkable village, built around 80 years ago by Italians. Many houses are now abandoned and deteriorated. A great road running via the slopes of a mountain lead you to the oldest Byzantine Chapel of Rhodes: Fountoukli. Thereafter you only descend towards the west coast, through the village Dimilia, along the chapel Silas built in a cave and all the way downhill to the coast at  Soroni from where you peddle parallel to the coast to Kalavarda.

Challenge: 40 km, 500m ascent, 600m descent

Day 8:    Departure

You will have a transfer to the airport and depart. In case you leave late, you may still use your rental bike for a trip in the vicinity of Kalavarda.

'standard' hotels

The hotels in Kalavarda and Archangellos are small, simple Greek family hotels: you will feel welcomed, the hotels are clean and do have air-conditioning. They are not luxurious though. In Rhodes town your hotel is more luxurious and located within the old city walls in the medieval city of Rhodes.

In most cases you will stay in the standard accommodation that belongs to this trip. Occasionally an alternative accommodation will be confirmed to you. When an alternative accommodation is necessary,we always try to maintain the same standards and quality. When staying in an alternative accommodation, the cycling routes are never affected.
