The family tents sleep 4 to 6/8 and are equipped with one double sofa bed (for the parents) and as much matrasses as needed for the kids (on the floor, in a separate sleeping compartment). If you’re early you should try the body boards on the waves of the campsite beach before you meet up with your local mountain guide and rest of the group. Together you’ll walk in 30 min along the coastal footpath to the cider house where the welcome dinner is served. Afterwards you’ll be informed about all the logistic details of this tour; when you will be guided, when you will do activities on your own and how. The local support team will cater for breakfasts and keep track of all transfers needed

Challenge: Travel to Asturias

Villages: Vidiago

Day 2:    Coastal walk and caving near Buelna (6 km)

After an extensive and relaxed breakfast on site, we’ll all have a taxi transfer (included service) to Buelna where we start walking in the company of our local mountain guide. He or she will take us to a natural cave that communicates with the ocean which we will explore (headlights on!). Then we cross a natural limestone bridge and walk back to the campsite along the coastal footpath and pilgrims’ way. During lunch time in the village of Pendueles the guide will explain what activities can be done in the afternoon, such as surfing and SUP or visiting the nearby medieval town of Llanes. Taxi transfers can be arranged for those who have no (rental) car.

Challenge: 2 hours walking + 30 min inside the cave, 6 km, 200m ascent / descent

Villages: Buelna, Pendueles, Llanes

Day 3:    Canoeing along river Deva (14 km)

After breakfast, private transfer (included) to Unquera where you will get equipment and explanation about the canoeing adventure that is about to start: 14km down the river Deva in the company of a trained monitor. You’ll get pack lunches that can be eaten on one of the river beaches or at the end of the excursion in Vilde, where there is a bar and children’s playground.

The afternoon is free to spend on the campsite and dinner is not included.

Challenge: 3-4 hrs, 14 km canoeing down the Deva river

Villages: Unquera, Vilde.

Day 4:    From the sea to the mountains (9,7 km)

After breakfast we’ll pack our bags and drive -in our own (rental) cars or taxis- in approx. 30 min to the village of Pandiello, located at 450m and a real gateway to the National Park Picos de Europa. Here we start our adventurous self- guided walk along the historical footpath “Camino Real”, following the slopes of the Sierra del Cuera and enjoying constant panoramas of the high limestone peaks of the Picos de Europa. Detailed route descriptions and GPS-track will guide to the village of Asiego (nice bar) and then through chestnut woods down to Carreña where our accommodation for the rest of the week is located: a welcoming hostel with ample family rooms, restaurant and garden. During dinner (included) your local support team will give information about the village & options for day 5.

Challenge: 3.5-4 hrs, 9,7km, 330 m ascent, 665 m descent

Villages: Pandiello, Asiego, Carreña.

Day 5:    Rest day or optional cycling route (20 - 45 km)

After 3 intense days you might want to have a day of rest to hang around the village, read a book or play soccer with the locals at the playground. You can also rent bikes for the day: touring bikes to visit the nearby town of Arenas (with some shops, bars and restaurants; at 3km) or mountain bikes to do a more adventurous and strenuous cycling route in the valley (from 20 to 45km; several routes available). Lunch nor dinner are included today.

Challenge: 20 - 45 km cycling

Villages: Carreña, Arenas de Cabrales.

Day 6:    From Tielve to Sotres: up to the highest village of Picos (8,7 km)

Today a real mountain walk is planned within the National Park Picos de Europa; of course, accompanied by our local mountain guide. After a 20min private transfer we’re all dropped off at the village of Tielve and start walking up to the high meadows and huts of Valfrío, where people still milk cattle in summer and make the typical blue cheese of the area: Cabrales. Spectacular views of the most famous Peak Picu Urriellu can be expected during lunch time (pack lunch included). Then we continue walking through open beech woods and a bucolic valley up to Sotres; the highest village of Cabrales. There, we will visit a modern cheese factory and a natural cave (where the cheese is stored for aging). After a tasting session and some free time at the village we return by taxi to Carreña. Dinner is not included.

Challenge: 3,5-4 hrs + 30 min during cheese excursion, 8,7 km, 575 m ascent, 250 m descent

Villages along the way: Tielve, Sotres

Day 7:    Canyoning activity and farewell dinner

The last day should be great fun: together we’ll do a canyoning excursion through the nearby Casaño gorge in the company of a professional Spanish guide. After having dressed up in wetsuits and helmets, we start an adventurous traverse of the gorge, jumping into the crystal-clear pools of cold water and using ropes for some serious ‘abseiling’.

The afternoon is free for optional activities (for example visiting the village of Bulnes by funicular) before we dress up for the final grand dinner at a local restaurant. Your local mountain guide will be joining you at dinner.

Challenge: Canyoning activity and farewell dinner.

Villages along the way: Arenas de Cabrales, La Molina

Day 8:    End of program

Our family adventure comes to an end after breakfast. Private transfers and/or extra nights can be booked

Challenge: Travel home from Asturias
